Obituary

David John Lisk

David John Lisk, 65, Bradenton, died April 29.

Mr. Lisk was born on June 30, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, and had been a resident of Bradenton since the early 1980s.

He served with the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10141 and the Kirby Stewart American Legion Post 24 of Bradenton.

Memorial services with military honors were to be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Kirby Stewart American Legion, Bradenton. Inurnment is planned at a later date in Delphos, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kirby Stewart American Legion Post # 24, 2000 75th St. W., Bradenton FL 34209.

Arrangements were by Shannon Funeral Home, Westview Chapel, Bradenton. Condolences may be made online at www.shannonfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. Lisk is survived by son Brad and wife Nichole of Holmes Beach; two daughters, Stacey Lisk of Santa Monica, Calif., and Summer Costleigh of Laurel, Del.; two brothers, Danny and Fred of Delphos, Ohio; sister Carla Burnette of Livonia, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Shane and Tanner Lisk of Holmes Beach.

 

Gillespie Isaac 'Junior' Pride

Gillespie Isaac "Junior" Pride died May 2. He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Washington, Ind., and came to Cortez in the 1970s.

He graduated from Washington Public High School and moved to New York State to serve an apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood  of Electrical Workers 1249. He continued with the IBEW his entire career, which took him around the world working on power projects. Mr. Pride retired in the early 1970s.

Known as "Charley Pride" to many folks, he was a Shriner, honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Manatee Sarasota Fish and Game Association. He was an avid fisherman, poker and RV enthusiast and a NASCAR fan.

He is survived by brother Norman"Bud" Pride of Bradenton; and two sisters, Norma Jean Joyce of Bloomington, Ind., and Patricia Ann Robinson of Indianapolis, Ind. He had many friends and extended family, which he met here and while traveling in his RV around the country.

There is no service planned at this time, but a memorial celebration of Mr. Pride’s life will be announced here.
