Holmes Beach Police arrested Ronald Karas, 62, after a scuffle with several officers on Sept. 15.
According to Holmes Beach Police Chief Jay Romine, police went to a residence in the 600 block of Manatee Avenue in Holmes Beach, Karas' former address. Once there, they attempted to arrest Karas for violating a domestic violence injunction order, filed by Karas' ex-wife.
Upon arrival, officers tried to stop Karas from reaching a rack of kitchen knives, Romine told NewsManatee.
Other officers arrived and the fight was on. Karas kicked two police officers in the head, chest and arms. Karas himself suffered a minor facial injury. Police finally managed to get Karas handcuffed, Romine said.
In trying to get Karas into an HBPD vehicle, Karas escaped momentarily, but was captured after a brief foot chase.
Karas was arrested and charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, burglary of an occupied dwelling, escaping police custody and violation of the domestic violence injunction. |
