The Rev. James M. Metts Jr.
The Rev. James M. Metts Jr., 76, of Bradenton,
died Sept. 12.
Born in Water Valley, Miss., the Rev.
Metts ministered in churches in Alabama, Mississippi
and Florida, including Island Baptist Church, Anna
Maria; First Baptist Church in Marianna, Fla.; First Baptist Church,
Bradenton; and Northwest Baptist Church, Bradenton. He graduated from
Benford High School in Duck Hill, Miss., received his bachelor of
science degree from Mississippi College and his master’s
degree in theology from New Orleans Baptist Theology Seminary. He served in
the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Rotary
Club, was active with the chamber of commerce and served as moderator of the
Ministerial Associations. He was past-president of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club.
Visitation was Sept. 14 and services Sept. 15. Memorial contributions
may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care,
5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238. Griffith-Cline
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by wife
of 54 years Martha A.; son Jed and wife Linda of Elkin,
N.C.; daughter Kathy of Bradenon; sisters Frances Dickerson of Tupelo,
Miss., and Mary Evelyn Owen of Clarksdale, Miss.; and grandchildren
Jay Martin, Joshua Martin Jim-Ed and Carly. |
