Anna Maria City

Sept. 2, 800 block North Shore Drive, theft. The complainant said someone took her floating chair, which was anchored on the beach and held her cell phone.

Bradenton Beach

Sept. 3, 1800 Gulf Drive S., Coquina Beach, fleeing to elude. Officers observed a vehicle swerving in traffic, then passing cars illegally, then accelerating when officers activated lights and siren. The car was eventually stopped and the driver charged with fleeing to elude and taken to jail.

Sept. 3, 2000 block Gulf Drive South, Coquina Beach, drugs. Officers stopped a vehicle for having an expired license tag and observed what later was identified as a marijuana cigarette on the center console of the vehicle. The driver, Garcia M. Willie, 24, of Bradenton, was subsequently found to have more marijuana in his vehicle and he was arrested.

Sept. 3, 100 Bridge St., Bridgewalk Resort, burglary. The complainant said someone took stereo equipment and other material from his pickup truck, then set the truck on fire. Officers canvassed the area and located the stereo equipment in a parked car and subsequently arrested the suspect.

Holmes Beach

Aug. 31, 500 block 71st Street, criminal mischief. The complainant said someone, who he suspects to be his soon-to-be-ex-wife, painted graffiti on his utility trailer.

Sept. 1, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, drinking. Officers observed a man and woman drinking beer and both were given trespass warnings for violation of a county ordinance that prohibits drinking alcoholic beverages at the beach.

Sept. 1, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, battery. The complainant said she observed a man being beaten by a woman, who was later identified as his daughter, who kicked him in the testicle area, according to the report. The daughter then left. The father refused to press charges, but a capias for domestic battery was requested.

Sept. 2, 100 block 51st Street, battery on spouse. The complainant said his estranged wife was being bothered by an ex-live-in boyfriend. Officers saw the woman and ex-boyfriend arguing. He was issued a trespass warning. She said the ex-boyfriend had battered her and bruised her legs, which officers photographed and, pending her filing formal charges, the case is pending.

Sept. 4, Gulf and Harbor drives, suspicious. The complainant said a middle-aged white male had been driving in the area at about the time school lets out for several days. He is reported to be driving a newer-model black Jeep with silver accents, according to the report.

Sept. 5, 3400 block Gulf Drive, driver’s license. While conducting a speed check, officers stopped a vehicle driving above the posted speed limit. A record check revealed the driver’s license was classed as a “habitual traffic offender.” He was arrested for unlawful speed and driving with license revoked.

Sept. 5, 100 block 55th Street, theft. The complainant said someone took tools from his house.

Sept. 5, 4000 Gulf Drive, Manatee Public Beach, driver’s license. Officers observed a male suspect driving his motorbike through the beach parking lot “about as fast as it would go,” according to the report. Officers pursued the driver and eventually stopped him. Record checks revealed his license was revoked and he was arrested.

Sept. 6, 500 block Key Royale Drive, suspicious. The complainant said that he suspected a neighbor had cut the brake lines on his vehicle. Officers could initially find no sign of a cut and, although the 1993 vehicle did show signs of wear on its brake lines, there was no evidence of brake fluid on the parking lot. Subsequent investigations indicated that the line may have indeed been cut, there was a small amount of fluid on the parking lot, but it was unclear whether or not it was from the resident’s vehicle or another vehicle and no further action was taken.

Sept. 6, 4900 block Fourth Avenue, DUI. Officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle and arrested Mark Michalsen, 40, of Sarasota, driving under the influence.
