Story Tools • • Date of Issue: August 30, 2007 Shade meeting on Olesen lawsuit The Anna Maria City Commission scheduled a “shade” meeting to discuss the Olesen lawsuit for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28. City attorney Jim Dye said new information has surfaced in the ongoing negotiations to settle the dispute and he wants to update the commission. The Olesen family sued the city last year over ownership of an easement on the north side of their property at 504 S. Bay Blvd. The city has claimed ownership, while the Olesen’s have countered that they have documents proving the city gave it the easement a number of years ago. While the commission has agreed the Olesens are an “aggrieved party” and have suggested they apply for a variance, the family has declined to follow that procedure. A variance would give the Olesens use of the easement, but not ownership.
