Anna Maria junkyard cited

Property owners in Anna Maria who don’t want to clean up their lands and get rid of trash and debris take note.
The city’s code enforcement board is going to play hardball with people who leave their yards looking like a junkyard, particularly if they’ve been what the board considers ample time by the board to clean up the mess.
At its Aug. 13 meeting, the board was disappointed with Scott Steenstra and his brother Edward, who are the owners of 613 N. Bay Blvd.
On June 18, the board gave the Steenstras until Aug. 9 to bring their property into compliance with several city codes.
Alas, when code enforcement officer Gerry Rathvon checked with Scott Steenstra in early August to determine his progress, she had to have been disappointed. While there had been some improvement, Rathvon told the board and showed photographs demonstrating that the Steenstras had substantially failed to comply with the board’s order.
After looking at a litany of pictures from Rathvon backing up her claim, the board voted to assess a fine of $100 per day against the Steenstras, effective Aug. 13, and continuing until they clean up their property sufficiently to comply with city codes. |
