Back-to-school night at AME

Anna Maria Elementary School, located at 4700 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, is hosting Back-to-School event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

The open house for parents and family members with students entering kindergarten-, first- and second-grade will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Classrooms will be open and parents are encouraged to visit the campus with their students during this hour.

A “back-to-school” format is planned for grades three through five. Parents and family members of those students may choose to attend either of two 20-minute sessions, at 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m., when teachers will present an overview of classroom procedures.

Class lists are currently posted outside the administrative office and cafeteria.

Information will also be available about the physical education program, reading and gifted programs, as well as the Anna Maria Island Community Center’s before- and after-school program.

This year, the Center’s before-school care will remain on the AME campus, noted Principal Tom Levengood, but the after-school program will move to the Center’s facility in Anna Maria when the new building is ready. The Center will bus students enrolled in the after-school program from AME to the Center.

At the open house, cafeteria staff will be present to help parents open lunch accounts and parents can open their own account if they plan to dine frequently with their child.

The Parent-Teacher Organization will offer for sale pre-packaged school supplies designed with the specifications of each AME teacher at the open house. Parents will also be able to sign up for PTO membership and committees at the event.

Students interested in participating in scouting programs will also have an opportunity to register with local troops at the open house.

For more information, call the AME administrative office at 941-708-5525.
