Beleaguered Anna Maria residents living along the bayside of North Shore Drive got some welcome news last week, even if it did take nearly eight years to reach them.
Manatee County Sheriff's Office Sgt. John Kenney, who has been in charge of the Anna Maria substation, celebrates at his retirement party with Mady Iseman, Nancy Colcord and Mayor Fran Barford June 17. Kenney's official retirement date is June 30, but he'll be returning to the Island occasionally as a member of the MCSO's volunteer reserves. One duty coming up soon will include policing on July 4. Anna Maria’s planning and zoning board at its June 16 meeting was deadlocked on approving a recommendation to the city commission on an ordinance allowing owners of non-conforming residences the right to expand or re-roof.
Former Anna Maria City Commissioner Linda Cramer said she is prepared for the Aug. 10 trial of two men accused of home invasion, robbery and false imprisonment at her Anna Maria residence in April 2008.
