Williams, 51, a cook at Shells restaurant on East Bay Drive in Holmes Beach, was arrested for battery on another individual on the beach May 1. According to a Bradenton Beach Police report, Williams fought another man at the Drift In lounge in Bradenton Beach. By the time police arrived, Williams had fled and was in the bay, about 30 feet away, trying to bail out his dingy. Williams refused to come out of the water, spouting a few expletives at the officers, so they went in to get him. In order to subdue Williams, officers had to pepper-spray him. Once on shore, Williams continued to be belligerent, police said. He had to be laid down on the sand to be handcuffed. He was then put in a patrol vehicle. At the police station, Williams was secured to a bench and became unruly, threatening officers with bodily harm and lawsuits. After telling him numerous times to calm down, Williams got more unruly and started banging the nearby wall and spitting on the floor. He refused to calm down. So, officers again pepper-sprayed him. Williams was charged on the original battery as well as with resisting arrest without violence.
