Story Tools • • Date of Issue: May 31, 2007 Gulf Drive/Cortez Road intersection work to start soon Intersection improvements at Gulf Drive and Cortez Road in Bradenton Beach are scheduled to begin any day, and traffic stalls, gridlock and delays are anticipated. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, AJAX Paving Industries Inc. will be replacing the mast arm, which holds the traffic signal, at the intersection. "Expect a right-lane, west-bound closure on Cortez Road during mast-arm installation," DOT officials said, as well as "various lane closures along both Cortez and Gulf drive. The work is part of a $472,000 intersection improvement project by the DOT. Also, DOT officials warn that a maintenance project has commenced from the intersection south to 13th Street as crews clean storm drains. The project will run weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through June 7 and "there will be northbound and southbound intermittent lane closures on Gulf Drive."
