I am a registered voter in Florida and/or a Florida property owner I hereby petition the Office of Insurance Regulation and the Florida Legislature to take all necessary action to provide stopgap coverage for wind insurance through Citizens Property Insurance Corporation for properties at risk on barrier islands and other coastal areas. I further request a task force be immediately formed to correct inequities and determine a standard of eligibility ratings for windstorm coverage through Florida’s insurance pool. An informative forum was hosted by The Islander and Save Anna Maria Inc. on May 25 that included a talk by state Rep. Bill Galvano, who previous to the end of this year’s legislative session, attempted to have all of Anna Maria Island included in the "wind pool." His effort in the session was to provide stopgap coverage for Island residents until the findings of a recommended task force could correct inequities in the coverage areas in the state. He offered solutions, which will be detailed in the article, but in the meantime, to support his effort to have the insurance commissioner take emergency action, he would like to receive e-mails and mail supporting his measures.
