Whitmore says no to county commission seat
Holmes Beach Mayor Carol Whitmore has made it official: She's not going to run for an at-large seat on the Manatee County Commission this November, although she remains firm that she will not seek re-election as mayor.
"I just don't feel I can commit to running for an at-large seat and be mayor for another eight months," she said.
In addition, she said she's got a lot of work to do with the process of the consolidation study now under way with Bradenton Beach, and she didn't want anything to detract from that effort.
But Whitmore may not be retiring from public office this November.
"I'm definitely not running for mayor this fall, but I have not ruled out running for a seat on the city commission," she added.
Whitmore was a Holmes Beach city commissioner from 1991 to 1998 before winning election as the city's mayor, a post she has held for eight years.
