Jackson D. Gray
Jackson D. Gray, 89, of Anna Maria, died Nov. 30.
Born in New London, Conn., Mr. Gray came to Manatee County from Seminole, Fla., in 1977. He was a ships officer in the Merchant Marine. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Waterford, Conn.
There were no local services. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Island Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by niece Dorothy Wickenheiser of North Redington Beach, Fla.; and nephews George Holmes and Sidney Holmes, both of Connecticut.
Jean Gulbrandsen
Jean Gulbrandsen, 93, of Anna Maria, died Nov. 28.
Mrs. Gulbrandsen came to Manatee County from Chicago, Ill., in 1970. She was a lifelong member of the Anna Maria Island Power Squadron.
She is survived by son Robert of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; daughter Joan Lund of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Gladys Hughes
Gladys Hughes, 88, of Bradenton, died Dec. 6.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Hughes came to Manatee County from there in 1971. She was the retired personnel director of the Sheraton Gibson Hotel and Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a member of the Bradenton Country Club. She was a 30-year veteran of Blake Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers and its first president. She was a member of Palma Sola Presbyterian Church.
Memorial services will be held in Cincinnati at a later date. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Island Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by husband Howard B.; sister Dorothy Krumme of Anna Maria and husband James C. and their children and grandchildren.
Evelyn K. Nash
Evelyn K. Nash, 89, of Bradenton, died Dec. 5.
Born in Perry County, Ind., Mrs. Nash moved to Fort Pierce, Fla., at age 2. She was a graduate of Fort Pierce High School, where she was valedictorian. She moved to Clewiston in 1940 and, with her sister, became owner and operator of Beardsley Nash Independent Insurance Agency. She was one of the few licensed female insurance agents in the state at the time. She was an officer in the local Business and Professional Women's Association and a member of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents. She was active in the Clewiston Little Theatre. She moved to Bradenton in 1979.
Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, followed by a memorial service at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Island Chapel, 6000 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach. Graveside services will be in Fort Pierce Dec. 9.
She is survived by son Jeffrey of Anna Maria; daughter Terryll Sauls of Tallahassee; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Helen Pruitt Swift
Memorial services for Helen Pruitt Swift will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, in the Walker-Swift Room at the Island Branch Library, 5701 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach.
Mrs. Swift, 91, of Holmes Beach, died Nov. 26.
Born in Decatur, Ill., she was a former librarian. She worked in a library capacity in Manatee County with the bookmobile when it used to be the only library service on the Island. She then worked in the storefront library in the Holmes Beach Shopping Center and was instrumental in construction of the present Island Branch Library. She was also active in the Anna Maria Island Historical Society.

She is survived by sister Marjorie Whitley of California and several nieces and step-children. |
