Obituary
Loraine I. Black Loraine I. Black, 95, of Holmes Beach and Sandwich, Ill., died Dec. 14.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Fowler received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., and a master's degree in public hearth nursing from the University of Michigan. She was a practicing nurse for 21 years, and retired as associate profession of public hearth at the University of Michigan.
Private services were held in Sandwich.
She is survived by sons Gerald D. Jr. of Oxford, Mich., and James A. of Sandwich; sisters Charlotte Atland of Hart, Mich., and Gayle Shear of Kentwood, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Tony Sisto Comkowycz
Tony Sisto Comkowycz, 22, of Bradenton and formerly Anna Maria Island, died Dec. 17.
Born in Miami, Mr. Comkowycz grew up on the Island, attending Manatee High School. He worked at many Island restaurants, and was server and chef's assistant at Woodson Brothers Seafood Grille, Bradenton.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at Sts. Peter And Paul The Apostles Catholic Church, 2900 75th St. W., Bradenton. memorial contributions may be made to the DARE program at Anna Maria Elementary School, 4700 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach FL 34217, or to the Anna Maria Island Community Center, P.O. Box 253, Anna Maria FL 34216. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by parents Jim and Pat of Bradenton; biological father Antonio Sisto of Miami; sister Lisa of Bradenton; brother Jeff of Bradenton; half-sister Raven Greco of Columbia City, Ind.; and half-brother Joshua Greco of Roswell, Ga.
The family is very grateful to the many Island residents who generously gave of themselves in many ways to help Tony.
James Phillip Fowler
James Phillip Fowler, 43, of Bradenton Beach, died Dec. 9.
Mr. Fowler was kitchen manager and chef at the Moose Lodge, Bradenton Beach. He also worked at the Sandbar restaurant in Anna Maria City, the Beach House Restaurant in Bradenton Beach, and the Mar Vista Pub on Longboat Key.
Memorial services were Dec. 19 at the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by son James Joseph of North Port.
Rhoda Florence Kirk
Rhoda Florence Kirk, 71, of Anna Maria and Lakeland, died Dec. 19.
Born in Miles City, Mont., Mrs. Kirk came to Anna Maria from Lakeland in 1990. She was a member of Roser Memorial Community Church.
No memorial service is planned, although the Rev. Gary Batey of Roser Church said a showing of banners created for the church by Mrs. Kirk would be held sometime in the new year. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Seeds Inc., 5174 Country Road 675, Bradenton FL 34211.
