Man stabbed at Kingfish Boat Ramp

By Mike Quinn. NewManatee Editor Special to The Islander

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported a man was stabbed Oct. 8 at about 5:30 a.m. at the Kingfish Boat Ramp, Holmes Beach.

The report said the victim, Herrea Sandoval, 39, was sleeping in his vehicle at the boat ramp when an unknown black male approached him and demanded money.

When Sandoval said he had none, the would-be robber stabbed Sandoval twice in the stomach and once in the arm.

The black male then fled in an unknown direction.

Sandoval drove himself to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where the incident was reported.

Sandoval's wounds were superficial and not life-threatening, the report said.

The suspect is still at large.

Bradenton Beach man arrested for vandalism in Bradenton

By Mike Quinn. NewManatee Editor Special to The Islander

Two Bradenton Beach men have been arrested by Bradenton Police for causing more than $2,000 in damage to the clubhouse at Palms of Cortez, 4802 51st St. W., Bradenton.

The arrest reports said Dustin Lee Hatcher, 18, of the 100 block of First Street North, Bradenton Beach, and William Shane Grier, 25, of the same address that was vandalized, entered the clubhouse on Sept. 21 shortly before 10:30 p.m. and turned on a faucet under a bathroom sink. The faucet is normally used to clean the bathroom floors, the report said.

The pair used another resident's card at the gate to gain entrance, according to the report.

The water ran for more than 10 hours, causing water to flood the bathroom and then enter the clubhouse and fitness center.

The two allegedly returned a few hours later to observe the flowing water and the damage it was causing.

On Oct. 5, BPD detective Jim Curulla talked with Hatcher, who said he was present at the time of the vandalism, but that Grier was the one who had turned on the water.

Hatcher said he "knew it was a stupid thing to do, but it wasn't like we hurt someone."

Damage to the clubhouse was estimated at $2,232.

Hatcher and Grier were charged with criminal mischief over $1,000.
