Docks OK'd at Sandpiper Resort in Bradenton Beach

Docks are in, multi-use trail and vacation of a street is out at Sandpiper Mobile Resort in Bradenton Beach.
City commissioner last week agreed with a recommendation by the city’s planning and zoning board that a 25-slip dockage facility along Anna Maria Sound could be built, subject to state and federal permits.
The commission balked at a provision by former building official Ed Mc Adam, though, for a north-south multi-use trail along the bayfront adjacent to the dockage.
Park officials had offered an alternate trail which would have called for vacation of 27th Street, which is an east-west roadway, rather than the path along the bay.
The park’s ownership had concerns regarding the bayfront trail regarding insurance.
It was a packed crowd in city hall for the issue.
“It’s a pathway from nowhere to nowhere,” said
Fran Colson of the north-south walkway.
Many residents said they were unaware of the proposal and wanted more study done on the matter.
City commissioner John Shaughnessy, who is a park resident and recused himself from voting on the matter due to a possible conflict of interest, said that there had been a “general lack of communication with the residents of the park” on the matter. |
