9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - The first annual Emergency Services and Safety Expo including the West Manatee Fire Rescue District team takes place at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Convention Center, 8005 15th St. E., Sarasota. Information: 941-751-7675.

9:30 a.m. - The Anna Maria Elementary School Fall Festival begins with a costume contest and parade at Holmes Beach City Hall, 5801 Marina Drive, and then proceeds to the school for more celebrating.

6 p.m. - “Night at the Museum” - with pizza, a movie, a museum adventure and a sleepover - takes place at the South Florida Museum, 201 10th St. W., Bradenton. Information: 941-746-4131.

  • On Dec. 7, the Holmes Beach merchants host the annual “Downtown Holiday” celebration with visits from Santa and the Anna Maria Island Privateers, as well as music, refreshments and shopping in the Gulf and Marina drives area.
  • The Anna Maria Island Art League’s Winterfest takes place Dec. 8-9 in Holmes Beach at the field next to city hall. Information: 941-778-2099.
  • The Anna Maria Island Privateers Christmas parade takes place on Dec. 8, beginning at Bayfront Park in Anna Maria and ending at Coquina Beach in Bradenton Beach. A party with Santa presenting gifts for children follows the parade. Information: 941-752-5973.

AME dates to remember

The Anna Maria Elementary 2007-08 school calendar is abundant with opportunities for community involvement. Following are a few of the dates worth remembering:

  • Oct. 24 - Fall Festival meeting at 8:45 a.m.
  • Oct. 26 - No school. Day camp available at Anna Maria Island Community Center.
  • Oct. 27 - PTO Fall Festival: Costume judging 9:30 a.m. at Holmes Beach City Hall prior to 10 a.m. parade to school. Festival games begin at 10:30 a.m.
  • Oct. 29 - Parent-teacher conference week begins.
  • Oct. 30 - Parent-teacher conference night from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 6 - Parent-Teacher Organization meeting at 5:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 12 - School Advisory Committee meets at 3:15 p.m. in the media center.
  • Nov. 13 - Parent-Teacher Organization family dinner night at 5:30 p.m. with student performance at 7 p.m.
